Wix is one of the more established website builder companies, becoming very well known within the past few years. They have been around since 2006, but it wasn’t until 2018 when they started to gain more users and popularity. 

Their popularity stems from the fact that the platform is really easy to use! Of course, there are other reasons as well. So, before you jump to any conclusions, read along to find out why more than 200 million people are using Wix!

We’ll be giving you our 100% unbiased opinion about Wix, as well as all the crucial details that we believe you should know for a website builder.

Our goal is to help you determine if Wix is the best fit for you and your blogging/website needs in all aspects.

What is Wix?

Wix is a website builder/ blogging platform that allows you to create and design your own website or online store, even if you have no experience!

They provide their in-house web hosting and domains, so you won’t have to worry about finding a separate service just to host. 

You might be thinking you need to download the software but are worried that you don’t have space on your computer.

The good thing is that Wix runs “in the cloud,” so you won’t have to worry. All you need is a computer and internet connection, and you can manage your site anywhere! 

Yes… even on vacation or on the plane as long as you have internet!

Who Owns Wix?

Three people founded Wix, and the founders are Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami, and Giora Kaplan. The idea was born (on the beach) while they were building a website for another start-up idea.

Like most website builders come to life, the founders had a hard time creating their own from scratch, taking them forever to code. So they took matters into their own hands to create a platform that didn’t need coding or design skills. Not long after, the software ‘Wix’ was born in 2006. 

Wix Pricing

Wix offers four different price plans ranging from $14 to $39 per month (billed annually).

The pricing isn’t the most outstanding compared to other companies such as Weebly, that’s more affordable. Though, Wix is still a very good choice for those who want simplicity but also control. 

Besides, you get a two-week money-back guarantee on all plans that you purchase- no questions asked!

Is Wix Free? 

There is a free version on Wix for anyone to create a simple and easy website. 

Using the free version is a good way to try creating a site, but we do not suggest using this for longer than just a trial if your end goal is to use the website for a business or monetize your blog. 

This version comes with ads (quite noticeable ones), doesn’t allow e-commerce stores, and you aren’t allowed to have your own domain. 

In our opinion, the free version is good for creating a temporary site or for personal use, but not anything else because of the limitations and lack of features. 

Wix Plans

Wix Combo Plan

The combo plan costs $14 per month and is the most basic plan of all. This plan is typically for personal use to create a basic website or portfolio.

The most significant difference between the free version and the combo plan is that you can now use a custom domain (1 yr free domain) and Wix ads removed from your site. 

The combo plan also offers 3GB in storage space for your content and 30 mins worth of video hours to upload on your site. 

This plan, in our opinion, does not provide excellent value for the cost if you are going to be using it long-term. 

Wix Unlimited Plan

The unlimited plan costs $18 per month. It’s an excellent option if you’re a small business entrepreneur or a freelancer. 

This plan is similar in basic functionality to the previous combo plan, but you get $300 of ‘Ad Vouchers’. You can use the voucher to pay for advertising with Google Adwords, Microsoft Ads, etc.

The plan also provides one year of free access to the ‘Site Booster’ app — that submits your website to search engines — and an analytics app that measures your site traffic. 

There is also an upgrade in storage space and video hours. You get 10GB of storage and 1hr of video upload.

We recommend this plan when you are looking for something more than just basic website creation. 

Wix Pro Plan

The Wix Pro Plan costs $23 per month, and it is labeled and known as the plan with the best value on Wix with the complete branding package.  

The plan includes all features from the previous plans with a few upgrades to the storage space and video hours — 20GB and 2hrs respectively. 

You also get one year of free access to a logo-making tool, the ability to customize social media icons, and a calendar tool that allows you to provide event listings. 

Wix VIP Plan

The Wix Pro Plan costs $39 per month, and it is labeled and known as the plan with the best customer care support.  

The VIP plan is similar to the Pro Plan; the only difference is it gives you more storage and video hours (35GB and 5 hours, respectively); you also get higher priority for user support.

This plan is not the best in value because you are mainly just paying for ‘priority support’ and extra storage. We suggest going with the Pro Plan for the price.

Wix Templates

There are over 800 templates/themes that you can choose from on Wix. This is much more than most popular websites builders such as Weebly, which offers roughly 50. The best part about Wix themes, though, isn’t the options. It’s that they are all FREE to use!  

They are all professionally designed and visually appealing for all different industries, but please do spend time choosing one as some are made better than others, of course.

In terms of looks and quality, it is not as modern as Squarespace’s templates, but the selections are all solid options for a typical website.

One downside is that once you find the template that works for you, you are stuck with it because you can’t easily change templates. If you do, you’ll need to start from scratch again.

We know it’s a pain in the ass to start over… I’ve tried it. 

On the bright side, all the templates are mobile-friendly, meaning that your website will automatically adjust any screen, tablet, or phone so it appears correctly.

It makes it more appealing to mobile users while boosting Search Engine Optimization (SEO) without you even knowing! 

Wix Editor

The Wix editor is super easy to use with practically no learning curve! 

The editor is a simple drag-and-drop website builder that allows you to customize just about everything to make the site yours.  

We love how simple and modern-looking the editor is. It doesn’t have the old-school look like other website builders. 

Don’t understand how to code? Or not a techie? Not a problem! Simply add, delete, or move elements (ex. text, image, contact form) around to design your website to your desired format!

Yes, you are reading it right, with just a click of the mouse, you can build a website!   

Wix for Blogging Review

Blogging is a crucial aspect for many websites to drive organic traffic. 

Especially if you are creating a website purely for blogging, you would need a good website builder for that specific feature. So how is Wix’s blogging feature? 

Well, Wix has blogging options, but they are definitely not as good as other builders such as WordPress. There are limits such as exporting blogs to another platform or being limited in who can leave a comment. 

In the end, the tools and features provided are decent and will get the job done for most people. 

Is Wix Good for Blogging?

In summary, Wix is good for basic blogging… but if you are looking to create a professional blog to monetize.

We suggest looking elsewhere as a starting point that’s more meant for blogging (such as WordPress).

Wix eCommerce Review

Wix has a fairly simple, user-friendly platform for anyone to try selling items/services online for beginners or even experienced users. 

Getting started is quick and straightforward. All you need to do is enter the data, pictures, set up payment options, and off you go to create more!

Wix provides a reasonably good range of e-commerce features for small to medium-sized businesses. The best part is that all the features can be applied to different types of products, whether it’s physical, digital, or service-based, 

• Unlimited number of products 
• Abandoned cart saver 
• Filter and sort products
• Mobile app manager 

The downside to using Wix for eCommerce is you would need to purchase a business plan. With just the regular plans mentioned above, you cannot sell anything online; however, the pricing isn’t much more. 

Keep in mind that not all the special features come included with all business plans. The basic one is mainly for the most simple online store you can create. (duh, right)

Wix Business Plans

The business plans all include the features of the regular website plans. The main differences are the eCommerce additions and more storage space.   

There are three plans to choose from:

• Basic – $23 per month, with the most basic store settings 
• Unlimted – $27 per month, most popular and best value 
• VIP – $49 per month, includes everything you need for a store and blog

Is Wix Good For eCommerce?

Honestly speaking, Wix is mediocre for creating an eCommerce store. It is nice if you already have a Wix website and you are looking to add a few items to sell on the side.

Think of Wix as a website builder that primarily helps to generate leads, spread information, and personal use with the ability to sell items on the side. 

It’s not the best website builder to start with an eCommerce site. All the functions for a basic store are there, and it’s fine to use.

However, it’s better for those looking to create only an online store to find a platform like Shopify or WooCommerce for a more professional look. 

Wix Customer Service

Customer service is often a make-or-break part of any blogging platform. The ability to talk to someone that gives you useful pointers changes your opinion towards the company. 

We have fully experienced bad service and amazing service. It really makes a difference. 

Thankfully, Wix doesn’t disappoint! You can find answers to pretty much everything through their help guides, community forums, and, if you need it, their phone and email support.

Wix takes it one step forward by creating help guides within the editor. So all the little question marks you see actually provide tips and guides to using the tools differently. 

Don’t forget to check it out even if you don’t need help in creating your site; you may just find something new to try!

Phone support is available 24/7 for English-language users. You will need to request a callback, which at least means you don’t need to wait on hold for hours.

The email support requires you to submit a ticket and someone from Wix usually responds within the week, but that all depends.

Wix Pros & Cons

Here’s the thing… Wix has many great features, and it is exceptionally well-rounded, but we don’t recommend it for everyone!

It all depends on what your individual needs and website requirements are. Take a look at the Wix pros and cons to determine if this website builder/blogging platform is for you.

Benefits of Wix: 

• Large Range of Templates/Themes: Wix provides over 800 plus templates for you to choose from that cover most if not all industries. Not all are stunning, but they come with useful sample content to help you get started. 
• Customer Service: Their help center is very extensive in video guides, blog guides, and support within the editor. You can practically find everything you have questions for in the help center before having to call support.
• Easy to Use: Anyone can create a professional, powerful website using Wix – no coding or previous website building skills required.
• App Market: Wix includes hundreds of apps that you can download onto your site. There are apps for live chat, newsletters, booking widgets, and much more that you can integrate into your website.

Disadvantages of Wix:  

• Lack of eCommerce Features: The eCommerce isn’t the best if you only open an online store. The features and tools that Wix has are not nearly enough to maintain a growing online store.
• Changing Templates: You cannot change your design to another template once you have designed and choose one. If you do decide to change, you will have to redesign everything from scratch. 
• Page Speed: Loading speeds for pages take a bit longer, but it is still at a tolerable speed.

Is Wix Good?

Yes. Completely. 

In our opinion, Wix is one of the website builders in the market today.

We recommend Wix if you’re a small to medium-sized business looking to create a website that is hassle-free and easy to use. It’s perfect for building your new website or blog to gain more attention. 

The platform is an excellent option for small businesses looking to use eCommerce. Its interface is clean, detailed, and easy to navigate. 

Always a plus in our book!

Wix may be the right fit for many people, but it may not be the best option for you!

We do not recommend Wix if: 

• You are only looking to create an eCommerce store.
• You are a professional developer who would like to customize your own website and take control.  
• If you want a fast performing website

But, ALL of Wix’s plans come with a 14-day free trial.
