What is Weebly?

Weebly was founded in 2007 and is one of the most extensive website builders available, currently powering over 50 million websites worldwide! (Dang, that’s quite a lot!)

Weebly is founded on the belief that anyone should have the accessibility and tools needed to transform an idea into a successful business.

Users will find that Weebly is an all-inclusive platform providing almost everything you’ll ever need to get started and build your website.

Who Owns Weebly?

Weebly was founded in 2007 by David Rusenko, Chris Fanini, and Dan Veltri. The three founders created Weebly to solve a common problem amongst many college students.

Their college required them to maintain an online portfolio of themselves; however, at the time, creating a website was far too complicated… To solve this problem, the three friends created what you know as Weebly.

In 2018, Weebly was acquired by eCommerce company “Square.” Thankfully, after the acquisition, not much has changed for the blogging platform other than a few additional benefits for Weebly users! 

Square’s addition allows Weebly users to efficiently utilize e-commerce features, such as inventory management, coupons, gift cards, etc. Square’s extra features resulted in Weebly becoming a popular platform for bloggers to use. 

Weebly Pricing

Weebly offers four different price plans ranging from $6 to $26 per month (billed annually). There is also an option to pay monthly; however, it costs more in the end). Weebly is considered one of the more affordable blogging platforms that are available on the market.

Weebly Plans

Free Plan

Weebly’s free plan is 100% free for anyone to build and publish your website.

Duh!

There are no hidden fees, questions asked, or trial period. Weebly’s free plan is the perfect way for beginners to step into the world of blogging! 

However, we must warn you… 

We do not recommend staying on the free plan if you plan on expanding or monetizing your blog. As they say, you get what you pay for.

With Weebly’s free plan, you automatically have Weebly ads, limited storage space, limited feature usage, and most importantly… you can’t use a custom domain.

Personal Plan

The personal plan costs $6 per month and has many similar features to the free plan. However, in our opinion, this plan is a complete rip-off!! 🙁 

The most significant difference between the free version and the personal plan is that you can now use a custom domain. The personal plan also offers other eCommerce features and marketing tools. However, this plan does not provide excellent value for the cost. 

Professional Plan

The professional plan costs $12 per month. It’s an excellent option if you’re a small business looking to build a professional portfolio or an online store. 

Weebly’s professional plan removes all mandatory ads and comes included with more features such as a free domain, unlimited storage, and phone support. Now, this is what we consider to be a great value! 

Performance Plan

The performance plan costs $26 per month, and it is perfect if you’re a business looking to expand and grow.

Weebly’s performance plan includes all features from the previous plans and includes advanced e-commerce tools like Paypal connection, shipping labels, and item reviews.

Weebly Editor

The Weebly editor is an easy to use feature with practically no learning curve! The editor is a simple drag-and-drop website builder that allows you to see exactly how it would look on the front end of your website. 

We love that you can make changes and immediately see how it would look on the front end. Other blogging platforms do not have this feature available. 

Don’t understand how to code? Not a problem! Simply add, delete, or move elements (ex. text, image, contact form) around to design your website to your desired format!

Yes, you are reading it right, with just a click of the mouse, you can build a website! 

Weebly Themes

Unfortunately, Weebly’s strength is not in its themes options; however, Weebly still allows users to choose from roughly 50 themes to build their website. 

These themes are all straightforward and simple for beginners to learn. Weebly themes include options for small online stores, professional portfolios, and blogs!  Even though Weebly themes are not the most modern or creative, the bottom line is that it will get the job done.

However, the best part is that ALL THEMES ARE MOBILE FRIENDLY! This means that regardless of what device you’re using, Weebly will adapt and make your content look good across all platforms!

Creating a mobile-friendly website is essential because more than half of the world’s viewers use their phones to search! 

Also, all of the Weebly themes are free to use!

You can easily switch between themes whenever you want! This feature is perfect if you’re trying to find your aesthetic and what design works best for you. 

Keep in mind though, depending on how you designed your blog, it may take some time to change themes. Every theme has a different layout, and some components may get distorted.

If you plan on using Weebly to grow and monetize your blog, we recommend investing a little money and getting access to a customizable theme. You’ll have fewer limitations on design elements.

Platforms such as There are many platforms such as Fiverr can help you create a customizable theme to expand your website. 

Weebly For Blogging

Weebly’s blogging platform is straightforward and easy to use, just like the editor. You still use the drag-and-drop builder to create your blog posts; but, there is no standard template. You will need to design a layout and develop it within the editor. 

Just like any other blogging platform, you control the comments, sharing, and have the option to change any setting as you like. On top of that, you can directly share to Facebook and Twitter automatically when you publish your post. You don’t need to worry about forgetting to share! 

Have you ever written a document and realized you forgot to save or your computer crashes on you? We’ve all been there…

With Weebly, you’ll never have to worry about that because everything saves automatically! Nothing gets published until you hit “publish.”

However, there are pros and cons to autosaving because once saved, you cannot undo it. Weebly does not have a sitewide undo button or the option to restore a previous version. 

Bonus Feature! Weebly allows multiple users to collaborate on the same website. You won’t need to worry about unsaved work or clashing between users when you are on a single page simultaneously.

Weebly eCommerce

Since Weebly’s acquisition by Square, it has been able to improve its eCommerce functionality drastically. Even Weebly’s free plan allows users the option of creating an online store.

Weebly’s free eCommerce functions are quite limited, so if you want to unlock more features, you’ll have to upgrade to a paid plan.

Keep in mind, if you plan on capitalizing on your online store presence, we recommend using a more prominent platform such as Shopify or WooCommerce.

Weebly’s eCommerce feature is designed primarily for smaller businesses with a lower traffic volume.

Weebly Customer Service

Have you ever gotten stuck with an online program with no support team? It sucks…

The good news is that you won’t have that problem with Weebly! Users have access to step-by-step tutorials, community support forums, live chat, and you can email Weebly support 24/7. 

The best part of Weebly’s support center guides is providing helpful SEO tips that allow you to rank on search engines quickly. 

Take note! Weebly’s live chat is available from Monday to Friday, 6 am-6 pm PST, and Saturday to Sunday, 8 am-5 pm PST.

All plans do get access to all the support channels mentioned above, but you would need to have a paid plan (professional or higher) to access live phone support.

Weebly For Education

Weebly for Education is an innovative website builder for educators. The platform allows educators to create their own class website, blog, or even open accounts for students. 

Teachers can utilize this Weebly feature to upload teaching materials, send out assignments, provide parents with information, etc. You have full control over students’ accounts to add, delete, or arrange them in different classes.

Although it doesn’t connect to the regular Weebly website, everything is the same besides the login and additional classroom tools. The best part is that it will always be free for educators!

Weebly Pros & Cons

There are important pros and cons to consider when choosing Weebly as your blogging platform. Here’s our honest opinion of Weebly as a blogging site.

Pros: 

• Drag and Drop. It’s very user friendly to new bloggers who are just starting. Everything is straightforward for beginners to learn on the job. 
• SEO Guides: Weebly offers SEO features and support guides that will help you rank higher on search engines.
• Responsive Themes: All of Weebly’s themes are simple, stylish, and easy to use. PLUS, they are all mobile friendly and respond to the layout of every device.  
• eCommerce. You can sell products and access Square eCommerce functions to build an online store within the editor. 

Cons: 

• Customization: Weebly lacks the creativity to customize your site to your desire unless you know how to use their code editor to customize with code. 
• Response & Speed: The response can be laggy when editing causing delays to the design and overall look. 
• Photo Storage: Weebly does not provide an online repository for your site images and videos for reuse. Instead, you need to store the photos locally like your desktop or thumb drive and re-upload them every time you want to use it again.

Is Weebly right for you?
